‘Illegals’ celebrate Citizenship Day

Aldermen George Cardenas (12th Ward) and Ricardo Munoz (22nd Ward), Salvador Pedrosa of the Little Village Chamber of Commerce, Ric Estrada of Erie Neighborhood House, and Javier Salas of Univision Radio, will join other prominent business and community leaders who were formerly undocumented immigrants and are now citizens to celebrate Citizenship Day and the contributions of undomented immigrants past and present.

It’s a Citizenship Day “Party of the ‘Illegals'” on Thursday, September 17 at 5 p.m. at 333 S. Ashland, the old building of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers, a union built by immigrants in the early 20th century.

Legalization of undocumented immigrants is critical to full economic recovery, said Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights announcing the event.  If legalized, undocumented workers would generate $48 billion in new revenue, the group says.
