Housing groups press Fioretti on TIFs

As alderman of the 2nd Ward, Robert Fioretto has signed off on TIF subsidies for six corporate headquarters in the Loop, but he’s refused to back an ordinance dedicating 20 percent of TIF funds for affordable housing.

Housing and community groups with the Sweet Home Chicago Coalition will march on Fioretti’s ward office, 429 S. Dearborn, tomorrow (December 15) at 10:30 a.m.

And the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless will release an analysis of downtown TIFs showing that nearly 3,000 people could have been housed with an amount equal to the $92 million in TIF funds (intended for “blighted” areas) that have been spent on corporate offices since 2000.
