Ask yourselves this: What will we do when our water rates increase by 50%, 75% or 100%? Who regulates water safety? Who will monitor compliance of safe water regulations; another private company? Who pays for monitoring private water companies to determine compliance with safety regulations? What happens if water companies are found to be “out of compliance?” What will the penalties be for unsafe water? Who will suffer when private water companies cut costs and ignore regulations? How many of us will get sick and die so that the CEO of the private water company can get rich? Atlanta, GA tried this. If Chicago gets privatized water, get ready for regular “boil water advisaries” and rate hikes.
